TUR 3-2 CZE ; SUI 2-0 POR

In a dramatic twist to the tale, the Turks survived a 2 goal deficit after Koller and Plasil have both given Czech a dream lead. Arda Turan who saved Turkey with a last gasp winner against Switzerland, struck again as Turkey started to claw back. In a frenzy finish, Nihat pounced on an amazing slip-up by Petr Cech who seemingly gifted the equaliser to Turkey. Within another minute, Nihat pounced on a brilliant through ball and put his shot right under the top right corner, in-off the underside of the crossbar. 3-2, and Czechs are going home early this year.

Both teams had nothing to play for but for Switzerland, it seems that salvaging some pride is the main dish this evening. After a goalless first half, with Portugal more deadly than the Swiss, it seemed as if Portugal will clinch the first goal this evening. However, Switzerland came back for the 2nd half rejuvenated. Hakan Yakin was put through by a great flick from Derdiyok, and with Ricardo to beat, he put the ball through the keeper's legs. Portugal were trying to avoid any major injuries now and hurried the game slightly, but after Meira gave away a penalty, Yakin scored the 2nd of the night as Switzerland defeated a Portugal side made up largely of 2nd-stringed players.

With that, Portugal lead Group A and Turkey takes 2nd spot, and a quarter-final clash with Croatia. Surprise, surprise...Czech Republic had only 3 things to blame for that defeat. The rain, a lapse of concentration and a moment of blunder by the goalkeeper least likely to make an error, PETR CECH. (His name is in bold only because he is a Chelsea goalkeeper. Muahaha...)

With Raúl left out, how far will Spain go?
